Interlude Black Iris Amouage
Interlude Black Iris was released by Amouage in 2020, composed by Pierre Negrin for men and women. The opening is cold and green, violet leaf and bergamot against the camphorous bite of rosemary, and it passes quickly. The heart is where the perfume sits longest: orris, earthy and grey rather than pretty, wrapped in olibanum and myrrh, with amber, labdanum and vanilla underneath giving a sweet resinous depth that the iris keeps from turning syrupy. What stays is darker still, oud and leather together, smoky and slightly sour, with sandalwood, cedar and patchouli drying the base out over many hours. The character is heavy, resinous and cool-toned, more mineral than warm despite the sweetness. It suits cold weather and night air, winter evenings, indoors or out, and settings where a dense, persistent perfume will not crowd anyone.
