Imitation Man Amouage
Imitation Man was released by Amouage in 2018, composed by Leslie Girard for men. Citron opens it sharp and bitter rather than sweet, with black pepper and nutmeg adding a dry spiced heat almost immediately, so the citrus never reads as fresh for long. The heart turns powdery and floral: Turkish rose sits over orris, and violet gives a cool, slightly sweet dustiness that softens the spice without brightening it. From there the composition goes dark and stays dark, leather and castoreum together making an animalic, faintly smoky skin, with vetiver dry underneath, patchouli adding earth, and myrrh a bitter resin at the close. The character is retrospective and rather formal, a powdery floral over leather. It suits cold weather and artificial light, autumn and winter, evening, indoors, at dinners and other occasions where people have dressed for the room.
