Guerlain released Shalimar Eau de Parfum in 1990, a creation by Jacques Guerlain for women. The opening is a bright rush of citrus, with bergamot, lemon, and mandarin orange providing a sharp, zesty freshness, underscored by a hint of cedar. This vibrant start soon gives way to a powdery floral heart, where iris lends its characteristic dry, earthy sweetness, balanced by the green earthiness of patchouli, the dry woodiness of vetiver, and the classic florals of jasmine and rose. The base is rich and complex, building on smoky incense, creamy vanilla, and a smooth leather accord. Opoponax adds a sweet resinous depth, while civet introduces a warm, animalic undertone, rounded out by sandalwood, tonka bean, and musk. This is a warm, opulent scent, best suited for evening wear and cooler seasons, carrying a sense of grand occasion.
