Yves Saint Laurent launched Black Opium in 2014 as an Eau de Parfum for women, created by Honorine Blanc, Marie Salamagne, Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp. The opening is bright and fruity, led by pear and orange blossom, with a sharp, peppery hint from pink pepper. This quickly gives way to a coffee‑laden heart where coffee, jasmine, bitter almond and licorice combine, producing a sweet yet slightly bitter, gourmand core. The base settles into a warm, sweet foundation of vanilla and patchouli, reinforced by cashmere wood and cedar which add a soft woody depth. The fragrance balances sweet, coffee and spicy notes, making it appropriate for night-time outings in autumn or winter, especially in urban or club environments.
